In Philadelphia Sunday, the Marlins topped the Phillies, 5-1.  Freddy Galvis (.227) was 0 for 4 and after getting up to .250 is struggling again.  Jacob Diekman came on in the 7th with 2 on and 2 out, stranded the 2 runners and then got through the 8th without allowing a run.......In Detroit, Quintin Berry (.333)failed to get a hit for just the 2nd time since his call up in the Tigers 5-1 loss to Yankees.  Berry may get to stay on the team a little longer, as another outfielder, Andy Dirks, had to put on the DL........In Washington, Michael Bourn (.300) had 2 hits, stole his 15th base, and scored a run for Atlanta, as the Braves beat the Nationals, 3-2.........In Cleveland, the Twins beat the Indians, 6-3.  Lou Marson had a double and an RBI for Cleveland.

In Clearwater, Jesse Biddle struck out a career high 12 batters over 7 shut out innings as the Threshers beat Palm Beach, 3-0. In Gwinnett, Greg Golson (.286) had 2 singles, a double, stole a base (#9), scored 1 run and drove in another to pace to Knights to a 7-3 win over the Braves..........In Las Vegas, Anthony Gose' (.302) hitting streak ended at 15 with an 0 for 4 in the 51s' 6-5 win over Reno.  Travis d'Arnaud (.322) had a hit, a walk,  scored a run, and knocked 1 in for Vegas, and Randy Ruiz (.335) had a double, a walk, and scored a run for the Aces. Bobby Korecky threw a scoreless frame for the 51s........In Tacoma, Michael Taylor (.313) was 3 for 3 , with a walk, for Sacramento, but the Rainiers beat the River Cats, 6-3.

A wild Saturday in Trenton, where the Thunder swept a doubleheader from New Hampshire, 3-2 and 6-5.  The wild part is that the opener went 14 innings, and the nightcap went 15!  It should have been 2 7-innings contests!  Michael Dubee threw a scoreless inning for the Thunder in the second game.

In Huntsville, Jesus Sanchez' great season continues. Sanchez pitched 2 more scoreless innings for the Stars in their 6-2 win over the Braves.  Jesus' ERA is now a sparkling 0.76 this year.

In Bowie, Darin Ruf (.344) had single, a double and his 10th home run of the year, knocking in 4 runs to power the Reading Phillies to a 7-3 win over the BaySox.  Leandro Castro also homered, 1 of his 2 hits on the day.  Austin Hyatt, recently returned from Lehigh to Reading, was the winning pitcher, throwing 5.2 innings and giving up just 3 runs on 3 hits, but 5 walks.  Lisalberto Bonilla notched the save with 2 perfect innings of relief, striking out 3 of his 6 hitters.  Reading is now 30-22, and trails first place New Britain by 1 game.

The BlueClaws lost their 7th straight game, 3-0 in Kannapolis.  So far the roster shuffling has not helped the Lakewood offense, as they slip to a woeful 19-36, and can't wait to end the first half and get a fresh start after the break in 2 weeks.

In Tucson, Anthony Gose extended his hitting streak to 15 games, with 4 hits, including a double, drove in a run and scored 4 times for the 51s in their 11-1 win over the Padres.  Anthony is now hitting .307 for the year.  Travis d'Arnaud picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly.........In Sacramento, Michael Taylor  (.303) had a single and 2 walks, and scored a run for the River Cats, in their 10-7 win over Fresno..............In Gwinnett, the Braves beat Charlotte, 10-3.  Greg Golson had a single and a double and drove in 2 of the runs for the Knights.

Berry's 3 hits not enough

A busy night on the first of June, with 3 HomeSiders taking the hill in the majors.  First, on a rainy night in Philadelphia, Kyle Kendrick survived a 48-minute rain delay in the top of the 5th inning to come back against the Marlins and pick up the victory in the Phillies 6-4 win.  Kendrick went the 5.1 innings (with the delay in between) and allowed 2 runs on 8 hits and 3 walks, dancing out of trouble all night long to pick up his 2nd straight win.  Carlos Ruiz (.381) had 3 more hits, including a double, and seems to like the clean up spot!! Freddy Galvis added a double and a run scored, while the Marlins got to Antonio Bastardo for 2 runs on back to back home runs in the 8th.  Jacob Diekman gave up 2 hits and struck out 1 in his stint, before yeilding to Papaelbon.

That was win #29 this year for HomeSiders.

In Houston, Jay Happ pitched well enough to win again, but suffered from lack of offense from the Astros.  Happ allowed 3 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks, and was charged with the loss in Cincinnati's 4-1 win......In Denver, the Rockies are stretching out Josh Outman so he can start again, and he went the first 3.1 innings against the Dodgers.  On a strict pitch count, Outman threw 55 pitches, and allowed just 2 hits and 1 walk, striking out 5 of the 10 outs which he recorded in the Rockies' 14-4 win.

In Detroit, Quintin Berry had 3 more hits, including a triple and a double off CC Sabathia and scored 2 runs for the Tigers, but the Yankees prevailed, 9-4.  "Q" has now hit in 9 of his first 10 games, and Friday was his 3rd 3-hit game, raising his average up to .364..........In Cleveland, Lou Marson had a hit and a walk and scored a run for the Indians in their 7-1 triumph over Minnesota......In San Francisco, The Giants edged the Cubs, 4-3.  Adrian Cardenas made a pich hit appearance and struck out for Chicago.

Berry leads Tigers to win

Quintin Berry had 3 more hits in Boston Thursday night, his 2nd 3-hit game in his first 9 major league appearances, stealing 2 more bases (5 altogether), and scoring 2 runs to spark the Tigers to a 7-3 win over the Red Sox.  Berry is 13 for 39, that's .333, and has hit in 8 of his first 9 games so far!!  He also made another great play in center field.

In Tucson,  Anthony Gose (.296) and Travis d'Arnaud (.330) had 2 hits each again for Las Vegas, as the 51s beat the Padres, 5-4. Gose has now hit in 14 straight!.........In Buffalo, Jason Donald (.315) had 2 hits, including an RBI double in the Clipper's 3-run rally in the 7th, and also walked for Columbus, as the Clippers shut out the Bisons, 3-0..........In Charlotte, Greg Golson (.276) had a triple and 2 RBI as the Knights beat Matt Maloney and the Red Wings, 5-1. Maloney made his 2nd start in a row, this time making it through 4.2 innings, scattering 10 hits and a walk, but yielding just 2 runs as the Twins continue to stretch him out to return him to the rotation.......In Reno, Randy Ruiz (.345)  had 2 more hits and drove in his league leading 52nd run of the year, to lead the Aces to an 8-3 win over Tacoma.

In Gwinnett, Tuffy Gosewisch (.250) had a single, a double, his 3rd home run, 3 RBI, and scored 3 runs for Lehigh Valley in the IronPigs' 14-4 win over the Braves.  Steve Susdorf, promoted 2 weeks ago and  hitting .273 for the Pigs, had a hit and an RBI.  Tyler Cloyd (4-1, 2.74) started and went 6 innings, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits, NO walks, striking out 4 to get no decision.  Phillippe Aumont blew the save and got the win,  while Tyson Brummett pitched a 1-2-3 9th.........In a strange game in Tampa, the Threshers scored a run in the 13th inning for a 10-9 win over the Yankees. This game was 9-9 after the first 6 innings, and then scoreless for the next 6, before Clearwater broke through for the win.  Miguel Alvarez had 3 hits, and D'Arby Myers (.316) continues his hot hitting with a triple and 3 RBI to pace the attack.

In Sacramento, the Fresno Grizzlies edged the River Cats, 2-1.  Michael Taylor's (.303) double was 1 of only 4 Sacramento hits.........In Reading, the R-Phils also managed just 4 hits in an 8-1 loss to Binghamton. Jonathan Pettibone (4-5) took the loss, allowing 7 earned runs on 7 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings of work............In Trenton, the Thunder got to Zack Segovia for 7 runs on 7 hits in 4.1 innings en route to an 11-0 win.  Zack is now 5-5 for Erie.  Mike Dubee pitched 2 shut out innings for the Thunder, and has a 2-0, 3.47 mark in 18 games with Trenton this year.

In Kodak, the Tennessee Smokies defeated Huntsville, 4-1.  Brian Schlitter (1-2, 5.54) was in the right place for a win for the Smokies, while Darren Byrd (0-2, 2.87) allowed 3 runs in his inning to be saddled with the loss.

Just when it appeared the Lakewood BlueClaws had found the recipe for success, Matt Campbell gave up 6 runs in the bottom of the 9th inning and the Kannapolis Intimidators stole a 9-8 win out of the Claws' hand.  Newcomer Alejandro Villalobos and Kelly Dugan had 3 hits each for Lakewood, while Chris Duffy, Brian Pointer, and Guantlett Eldemire added 2 hits apiece.  Kudos to Colin Kleven, who deserved better. On a night where he got some rare offensive support, the usually dependable bullpen let him down.
