In Pawtucket, the Red Sox beat the IronPigs, 7-1. Cesar Hernandez and Mike Spidale had 2 hits each for Lehigh Valley. Mike Cisco had a rare off night, allowing 4 runs, only 2 of which were earned, on 5 hits over 3 innings, while Tyson Brummett, Jake Diekman, and Joe Savery each threw a scoreless inning of relief. The Pigs are a half game behind Scranton, and 1.5 games behind Pawtucket.
In Reading Darin Ruf hit 2 home runs, and D'Arby Myers added a 2-run shot to provide the R-Phils with a 4-1 win over Binghamton. Ruf now has 20 homers, and 69 RBI, while Myers is hitting .254 since his promotion, with 2 home runs and 5 RBI in 30 games. D'Arby has had more playing time since moving up to Reading and is showing his ability now that he has got a chance to play. Ethan Martin, obtained from the Dodgers in the Victorino trade, was the winning pitcher, allowing just 1 run over 6 innings of work. Reading has won 8 of the last 9, and trails New Britain by half a game for the final playoff spot.
In Lakeland, the Threshers got just 6 hits, 3 of them by Edgar Duran (.265), and dropped a 6-2 decision to the Flying Tigers. Adam Morgan continues to pitch in hard luck; his 4-10 mark is not so bad when you look at his 3.29 ERA, which would indicate he is doing his job.
In Charleston, the BlueClaws wasted great pitching from Gabriel Arias and Austin Brough in their 2-0 loss to the Power. Neither pitcher walked a hitter or allowed an earned run. Miguel Alvarez and Alejandro Villalobos each had 2 hits for Lakewood.
In Norfolk, Jason Donald (.280) had 2 hits, including a home run for the only run of the game, as the Columbus Clippers edged the Tides, 1-0. It was the 6th home run for "J.D."..........In Louisville, the Charlotte Knights were held to just 3 hits, but one of the hits was a 2-run double by Greg Golson (.279), which was enough to give the Knights a 3-1 win...........In Albuquerque, Tuffy Gosewisch made his debut for the Las Vegas 51s, and was 2 for 3, including a double and run scored as the 51s beat the Isotopes, 6-3. Derrick Loop (9-3) was the losing pitcher for Albuquerque.

Rosenberg, who has been starting games for Lehigh Valley, came on and threw 2 perfect innings, striking out 3 of the 6 hitters he faced, consistently hitting 95 MPH on the gun. Antonio Bastardo also threw a 1-2-3 inning. Not much going on offensively, with Ryan Howard (just .191 so far) going 0 for 4, and Domonic Brown (2 for 11) picking up 1 hit.

Anthony Gose was 0 for 6 for the Blue Jays, and Michael Taylor struck out in a pinch hitting appearance.

With Scranton losing again, the Pigs are just a half game behind both the Yankees and Red Sox for first place.

The victory pulls Clearwater within 1.5 games of first place Tampa.
In Delmarva, Tim Carver hit a grand slam home run, and Maikel Franco pounded 3 hits and drove in 2 more runs, as the BlueClaws shut out the Shorebirds, 10-0. Hoby Milner (3-2, 3.41) continues to impress, this time 7 shut out innings, allowing just 3 hits, NO walks and 7 Ks. Felix Santos retired all 6 hitters he faced. The standings this morning show Lakewood in a 3-way tie for 2nd place, 1 game behind Hagerstown. The Claws head for Charleston next, to take on the Power in a big 4-game series, looking for a little revenge after dropping 2 of 3 last weekend in Lakewood.
In San Jose, Travis Mattair (.259) had 2 hits, including a single to start the game winning rally in the 9th, and drove in 2 runs for Bakersfield, helping lead the Blaze to a 9-8 win over the Giants..........In Louisville, Greg Golson (.279) had 2 hits and scored a run for the Knights, in Charlotte's 8-1 win over the Bats........In Durham, Yohan Flande pitched 6 innings and allowed just 1 UNearned run, but that run was the difference in the Braves 1-0 loss to the Bulls. Hamels losses as Phillies are shut out
In Washington Thursday, the Phillies dropped a 3-0 game to the Nationals, wasting a fine outing from Cole Hamels. Hamels (11-6) allowed 3 runs on 8 hits and 1 walk over 7 innings of work, striking out 9. Tuffy to Toronto; Reading wins 7th straight
First note of interest is that Tuffy Gosewisch has been traded to Toronto, and will probably report to Las Vegas, where he can fill in for Travis d'Arnaud for the rest of this year........Toronto's list of "BlueClaw Jays" seems to grow everyday!
On the field, Andres Blanco hit a 10th inning walk-off home run to give the IronPigs a thrilling 3-2 win over Pawtucket! Mike Spidale (.271) had 2 hits and an RBI, and Steve Susdorf (.267) had a double and scored a run for Lehigh Valley. Tyson Brummett struck out 2 of the 6 hitters he faced, recording 5 outs along the way, and Jake Diekman and Joe Savery each went a scoreless inning upon their return from Philadelphia, with Savery picking up the victory. Lehigh Valley now trails both Scranton and Pawtucket by 1.5 games. Only 2 of the 3 can get in the playoffs, and only 1 is guaranteed (the division winner). Its going to be a fun month of August in the IL North!
Speaking of fun, in Richmond the Reading Phillies won their 7th straight game, 7-4 over the Flying Squirrels. Leandro Castro (.292) and newly acquired Tommy Joseph had 3 hits each to pace the attack. Austin Hyatt recorded his 6th win with 6 strong innings before tiring in the 7th. Tim Kennelly made his debut as a full time pitcher, and threw a scoreless inning-striking out 2 of his 3 hitters, and got a hold! Reading (58-51) is now just a half game back of New Britain for a playoff spot.
In Clearwater, Zack Collier had 2 hits, including his 3rd home run, and Harold Martinez added 2 doubles and scored 2 runs as the Threshers beat the St Lucie Mets, 7-3. Collier is having a solid season despite his late start, hitting .284 in 53 games, while Martinez has struggled at Clearwater- hitting just .179 since being moved up basically because we needed someone to play 3rd base there. Jesse Biddle (7-4, 3.23) was impressive, tossing 7 shut out innings, 5 hits, 3 walks, 9 Ks. Speaking of impressive, Colton Murray threw another scoreless inning, and in 11.1 innings since moving up from Lakewood, Murray has allowed just 3 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 14.
In Delmarva, the BlueClaws made the most of just 5 hits, but came up short in a 6-5 loss to the Shorebirds. Alejandro Villalobos had 2 of the Claws' 5 hits. Miraculously, the BlueClaws are still just 1 game out of the lead in the Northern Division, and just a winning streak away from stealing this thing.
In Fresno, Jesus Sanchez pitched another 1.2 scoreless innings and picked up his second win in 10 appearances for Nashville, in the sounds' 7-5, 11-inning win over the Grizzlies. Jesus has pitched 11.1 inning of AAA ball, and allowed just 1 UNearned run, only 8 hits and 5 walks. Add in his AA season, and he has pitched 56.2 innings and posted an ERA of 1.27!! Dare I say my favorite converted catcher may find himself in Milwaukee in September? Yes, I dare!
In Frisco, Matt Rizzotti had 2 doubles and his 3rd home run in just 15 games for Midland in the Rock Hounds' 6-5, 12-inning win. "Riz" is hitting .317 since joining Midland and is benefiting from regular at bats..............In Corpus Christi, Jonathan Singleton had 2 more hits and scored 2 runs to help the Hooks win a wild one, 10-9 over San Antonio. Singleton is back up to .287, and is hitting .400 (14 for 35) over the last 10............In Stockton, Domingo Santana (.294) had a single, a double, 2 walks, and RBI and scored 2 runs to contribute to Lancaster's 15-2 win over the Ports...............In San Jose, the Giants beat Bakersfield, 7-6. Travis Mattair (.257) had a single and a double, and scored a run for the Blaze. (I keep hoping for Moose to be traded to the Giants, then next year he could play for the Flying Squirrels!)

wonderful Worley
After Tuesday night's game, the Phillies sent Jake Diekman and Joe Savery back to Lehigh Valley. They also officially promoted Sebastian Valle, and Cesar Hernandez from Reading to Lehigh Valley.
On Wednesday, Vance Worley threw 7 strong innings and the Phillies used 3 home runs to take a 3-2 win over the first place Nats. Worley (6-6) allowed just 2 UNearned runs on 6 hits and 1 walk. Antonio Bastardo retired the only hitter he faced, to notch his 18th hold of the season. Ryan Howard slipped to .206, going 0 for 3 (with a walk) and Domonic Brown was 0 for 4, but hit the ball hard a couple of times. The win for Worley was #46 this year for the HomeSide.
In Chicago, Adrian Cardenas made his 19th pinch hitting appearance for the Cubs, striking out in the 9th inning of an 8-4 loss to the Pirates. Cardenas was tearing up the Pacific Coast League, so the Cubs should really put him in the line up before he losses his groove.
In Boston, Quintin Berry (.282) was 1 for 4 with an RBI (#23) for Detroit in the Tigers' 7-5 win over the Sox, and in Seattle, Anthony Gose was 1 for 3, a bunt single, for the Jays in Seattle-s 5-3 win. Anthony is 6 for 31 (.192) in his first 10 games with Toronto.
