2 for the HomeSide!

Tuesday night in Philadelphia, John Mayberry came into the game as a defensive replacement, then hit a game tying home in the bottom of the 10th, and a walk-off grand slam in the 11th to give the Phillies an exciting 7-3 win over the Marlins.  Domonic Brown did not have have a hit, but reached base on an error to begin the winning rally and scored the deciding run.  Ryan Howard and Freddy Galvis each had a hit and a walk, Galvis' hit coming during the big 11th inning.  Jonathan Pettibone started and went 6 good innings, working out of some trouble and allowing just 2 runs (only 1 earned ) on 7 hits and 2 walks.  Antonio Bastardo came on in the 10th, and allowed a run, but was taken off the hook by Mayberry's first home run.  The win went to Mike Stutes, who threw a scoreless 11th and picked up his first win of the season.  Mike becomes the 11th different HomeSider to post a win this year.  Then, in Cincinnati, Josh Outman was in the right place at the right time for the Rockies.  Josh came into the game with 1 out and 2 men on base for the Reds, struck out both hitters he faced to strand the runners, and was awarded the win when Colorado rallied for 2 runs in the 8th for a 5-4 win.  It was win #2 for Outman this year, and runs the HomeSide total to 26 on the season!

In Buffalo, Cody Overbeck had 3 hits, including 2 home runs (#10 & 11), and drove in 3 runs to power the IronPigs to a 4-0 win over the Bisons.  Steve Susdorf (.330) and Darin Ruf (.260) had 2 hits each for Lehigh Valley and   Jake Diekman struck out the side in the 9th inning.  Also of note, with Michael Young returning to the Phillies, and Michael  Martinez being sent back to the IronPigs, the Phillies have reassigned Troy Hanzawa back to Reading.   Troy hit .371 in 11 games with the Pigs, proving he can play at that level...........In Altoona, a big home run by Sebastian Valle, his 2nd this week, and 2 hits each for Derrick Mitchell and Anthony Hewitt led the Fightin Phils to a 6-5 win over the Curve in the completion of the suspended game from last week. In the regualr game, the Curve scored 3 in the bottom of the 9th to gain a split with a 7-6 win.  Hewitt hit a pinch hit 2-run HR in that game.................In Jupiter, the Threshers swept a pair of games against the Hammerheads, 2-1 and 7-3.  Jordan Guth got his first win in his first appearancxe for the Threshers in the opener, after Nick Hernandez posted another excellent outing, allowing just 1 run (8 hits, NO walks) over 6 innings of work.  In the nightcap, Aaron Altherr hit a 3-run bomb (his 5th) and Maikel Franco had 3 more hits and drove in a run (#42) as Clearwater got the sweep.  Brock Stassi (.294) also had a 2-hit game in that one..........In Hickory, the BlueClaws managed just 2 hits and dropped the opener of their road trip to the Crawdads, 4-1..................In Corpus Christi, Domingo Santana had 2 hits and drove in 2 runs to help the Hooks defeat the Rock Hounds, 9-5.  D'Arby Myers had 1 for 4 and scored a run for the Hounds.

Royals claim Berry

Quintin Berry has been claimed on waivers by the Kansas City Royals and is on the AAA-Omaha Storm Chasers roster.  A new team, a new start for Q.  Best of luck from the HomeSide!

In some other Monday action, in Round Rock, the Nashville Sounds scored 2 in the 12th to beat the Express, 7-5.  Lisalverto Bonilla threw 3 perfect innings for Round Rock, retiring all 9 hitters he faced, and striking out 5 of them!.........In Albuquerque, the Oklahoma City RedHawks beat the Isotopes, 8-4.  Jonathan Villar had 2 more hits, an RBI and a run scored  for OKC, and Josh Zeid (2.59, 4 holds) threw 2 scoreless innings- in trouble the whole time, but allowed no runs.

Dom still hot

Another day, another home run for Domonic Brown.  In a hot streak that has seen him hit 9 home runs in the last 10 games, Brown did it again last night, blasting his NL leading 17th bomb in the Phillies' 7-2 win over the Marlins.  It was also another 3-hit game for him, and after hitting .206 for the first 3 weeks of the year, Brown's hot stretch has him at a lofty .291 and is one of the best long stretches any HomeSider has ever had!  He is 15 for his last 31 over the last 8 games, including 8 home runs and 15 RBI over that period!!

Ryan Howard, Freddy Galvis and Kyle Kendrick all added hits (Kendrick's was a triple!), and Kyle threw his 2nd complete game to improve to 6-3, 3.12 on the year.  I would have to say both KK and Brown are front runners to be selected for the All-Star festivities in New York next month!  The victory for Kyle was #23 for Homesiders this year.

At Yankee Stadium, New York beat the Indians, 7-4 despite 3 more hits from Michael Bourn, who is up to .312 and is 5 for his last 9.  Bourn has only played in 34 games because of that hand injury he suffered in April, but he has to be among those being considered for All-Star selction also!..........In Cincinnati, the Reds shut out the Rockies 3-0 behind Bronson Arroyo.  Josh Outman allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, striking out 2 in just .2 innings..............In Atlanta, Mike Zagurski had similar problems for the Pirates, walking 3 of the 6 hitters he faced and allowing a run in his .2 innings of a 7-2 Braves win over Pittsburgh.

On the minor league side, lets start with what I neglected to mention yesterday, the promotion of Jordan Guth from Lakewood to Clearwater on Sunday.  Congratulations to Jordan and continues good luck from all of us here in Lakewood.  The Claws had a travel day Monday and will open a series in Hickory tonight.

In Allentown Monday, Leandro Castro hit a 2-run walk off home run in the bottom of the 9th inning to give the IronPigs a 4-3 win over Gwinnett.  Leandro is htting .281, with 6 homers and 28 RBI for Lehigh Valley.
