In Allentown on Tuesday, the Reading Fightin' Phils beat Lehigh Valley, 6-4. The IronPigs scored first on an RBI single by Darin Ruf in the 1st inning. It stayed that way until the 4th when Sebastian Valle doubled home 2 runs for the Fightins, then scored on the front end of a double steal while Derrick Mitchell was being thrown out at second. Then, in the 8th Zack Collier scored a run, and Cameron Rupp knocked in another one to give Reading a 6-1 advantage. Steve Susdorf had an RBI single in the 3-run 9th inning rally by the Pigs that ended with the tying run at bat.
Reading will open their season Thursday night in Manchester, New Hampshire against the Fisher Cats. David Buchanan will get the nod for the Fightin' Phils. Reading may get to face Tyson Brummett, who the Blue Jays have moved back into a starter's role with New Hampshire.
Lehigh Valley opens at home on the same night, Tyler Cloyd will face Syracuse in Allentown.
