Tampa tops Clearwater

The Tampa Yankees outlasted the Clearwater Threshers 9-8 in 11 innings. While the Threshers had 8 runs and 12 hits, only 2 players in the line up had more than 1 hit. Welinson Baez lead the way with 4 hits and 2 RBI. Jay Miller added 2 hits, 2 walks, 2 runs scored and an RBI. Nobody else had more than 1 hit for Clearwater. Quintin Berry did have a single, a walk, a stolen base (#7), and 2 RBI.

A 2 run first inning lead and an 8-4 advantage in the middle of the 5th were not enough for Carlos Monasterios, 5.1 IP, 6 earned runs, 11 hits, 2 walks.

The bullpen fared a little better, but it was one of those nights where they could not seem to get 3 outs without giving something up. Matt German: 1.1 IP, 1 earned run. (Matt has been great so far this year, 0.82 ERA, so this is no knock on him)....Brett Harker: 3 hitters faced, 1 out, 1 hit, 1 walk....Sam Walls: 2 IP, 1 run, 2 hits, 2 walks....Dan Brauer: 1.2 IP, 4 hits, 1 walk, game winning run.

I offer these numbers for comparison. Andy Baldwin is pitching tonight for Tacoma in Tucson, Arizona. Andy made it through 4 innings, giving up 10 earned runs, on 17 hits. At least he didn't walk anyone!!

My final note of the day goes to my Homie. Randy Ruiz had 3 more hits today, a single, 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and an RBI as Rochester blasted Lehigh Valley 10-0. The IronPigs managed only 2 hits, 1 by the rehabbing Shane Victorino. Randy's assault on Lehigh Valley concludes tomorrow afternoon. My wife and I will be in attendance to represent the HomeSide.
