The BlueClaws have continued their winning ways, taking the first 3 games of the current road trip in Hickory. Friday they parlayed 4 hits into a 4-1 win behind Julian Sampson (6-3 4.69). Matt Rizzotti belted his 4th home run of the year. Rizz is 8 for 15 (.533)since returning from his injury. Lakewood hs now won 15 of 19 to improve to 18-10 in the second half (56-42 overall), still 3 games behind West Virginia.
The Threshers dropped a double header to the Manatees, 3-2 and 5-2. Brett Myers was the loser in game 1 and Carlos Monasterios took the defeat in the nightcap. Michael Taylor had 3 hits on the night, including his second home run for Clearwater (#12 overall) to raise his average to .226 for the Threshers.
In Bowie, Carlos Carrasco returned to the mound for the Phillies, tossing 4 strong innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits and 1 walk. Pat Overholt came in to relieve and the BaySox exploded for 6 runs en route to a 7-4 victory. Jason Donald(13), Lou Marson(5), Mike Elyward(4), and Clay Harris(2 for Reading, 10 overall) hit solo home runs for Reading. Harris is hitting .308 for Reading, .344 overall in 52 games this year.
Friday night in Lehigh Valley, J.A. Happ entered a game that suspended on July 3, and pitched 7 no hit innings striking out 12, to record his 6th win for the IronPigs.
