The Phillies have acquired Joe Blanton from the Oakland A's for former BlueClaws Josh Outman, Adrian Cardenas and outfielder Matt Spencer.
Outman won 14 games for the BlueClaws championship team in 2006 and has been pitching at AA Reading this season, posting a 5-4 record with a 3.20 ERA. Josh was a starter for most of his career, but the Phillies had been trying him out as a lefthanded relief specialist this year, thinking they may need him at the major league level. Cardenas has been the most consistent hitter in the Clearwater line up his season, batting .309 in 67 games, and 16 for 16 steals. Spencer, also at Clearwater, is a left handed outfielder, batting .249 with 6 home runs and 41 RBI in 84 games. Matt never played here at Lakewood, going directly to Clearwater this year.
The Phillies top prospects, Carlos Carrasco, Lou Marson, Greg Golson and Jason Donald all dodge the bullet for now and stay with the organization.
