'Claws stay hot, in the hunt

The Lakewood BlueClaws defeated the Delmarva Shorebirds, 6-4 Friday night, to remain 2 games behind the Lake County Captains for first place in the division with 10 games to go in the first half. The win makes 6 of 7 (and 15 of 18) for the red-hot BlueClaws. Lakewood got contributions from all over the line up, but we will start with the pitching. Julian Sampson made his first appearance since being hit in the ribs by a line drive back on May 18, and made it through 3.2 innings before needing relief. Sergio Escalona came in for 2.1 innings, and picked up the win. Escalona gave up just 1 hit, a home run to Kieron Pope, to improve to 3-1, 3.63 on the year. Ben Pfinsgraff threw 2 scoreless frames, striking out 4, to record his 4th "hold", and Jared Simon picked up his 10th save with a 1-2-3 9th inning.

Joel Naughton had 3 hits, including his first home run of the year, to up his average to .296, and Dominic Brown (.295) drove in 3 runs, one in each of his first 3 at bats, and Matt Rizzotti and Dereck Mitchell had 2 hits apiece. Mitchell, who his just .188 in April, had a .313 May and has continued his hot hitting here in June when the games have become very important.
