Brown back, goes deep

Domonic Brown returned to the Reading lineup Friday night after sitting out a week, and belted his first home run of the season in Reading's 5-3 loss to Richmond. Mike Spidale also homered for the R-Phils, who fell to 6-9 on the year. Drew Naylor (1-2, 4.86) took the loss, giving up 5 runs in his 5 innings of work after Phillies starter Joe Blanton went the first 3 and Brad Lidge threw the 4th.

In Lakeland, Matt Rizzotti had 4 hits, raising his early season average to .360, and Derrick Mitchell homered and drove in 3 runs as the Threshers topped the Flying Tigers, 8-4. Hietor Correa improved to 3-0 with 7 strong innings, and Jon Velasquez tossed the final 2 frames. Anthony Gose stole 2 more bases, giving him a total of 6 so far. The Threshers stay in first place with a 10-6 mark.

In Toledo, Jason Donald had 2 hits, 2 walks and 2 RBI as the Columbus Clippers beat the Mud Hens, 6-2. "JD" is hitting .310 for the Clippers. In Scranton, Scott Mathieson's comeback continues on track as he threw another scoreless inning for the IronPigs in their 6-3 loss to the Yankees. In 6 outings totaling 8.2 innings, Mathieson has allowed just 1 run on 5 hits, posting an impressive 1.04 ERA.

The news was not so good for former BlueClaw aces in the majors Friday night as both Cole Hamels and Gavin Floyd struggled. Hamels was pinned with his second loss in Arizona, while Floyd escaped with no decision in his winless April.
