The Clearwater Threshers topped Vero Beach 7-3 Monday behind another strong outing by Edgar Garcia. Edgar went 7 innings and made just one mistake, a home run ball to Vero's Matthew Fields. Otherwise 1 walk and 4 other his while striking out 8 to improve to 7-2, 4.05. Brian Schlitter (2.41) pitched the final 2 frames. Clay Harris had 3 hits, including his 4th home run, and drove in 5 runs for Clearwater. Harris, who will turn 26 this August, is batting .324 in 33 games since coming off the DL and would be in Reading if it were up to me. Carlos Leon also had 3 hits for the Threshers and Adrian Cardenas (.316) had 2 hits, a walk, and stole his 9th base without being caught this year. Gus Milner (.298) had a hit, a walk, and an RBI with a sac fly.
In Reading, Harrisburg beat the R-Phils 9-5. Brad Harman (pictured) homered for the 7th time this year(and the second day in a row) and Mike Spidale (.287) and Jeremy Slayden (.282) added 2 hits each for Reading. Spidale has been hot, raising his average from under .200 to it's current .287 and looking like the Mike Spidale we saw here in Lakewood in 2006 when he led the SAL in batting.
