Good Morning HomeSiders-
After a busy week that kept me away from the computer, here are just some of the week's highlights.
On Tuesday night in Chicago, Gavin Floyd defeated the Royals, going 6 strong innings, allowing just 2 earned runs on 6 hits, NO walks, striking out 4 in the Sox' 9-5 win. Gavin improved to 6-3, 3.15 for the year. It is a career high win total for a season in Gavin's major league career, no doubt due to the fact that he has been left in the rotation all season, and makes his career mark 14-13. It looks like the Whits Sox are getting the pitcher that the Phillies saw when they drafted Floyd out of high school in the 2001 draft.
Speaking of the Phillies, on Thursday afternoon in Philadelphia, Cole Hamels was spectacular, pitching a 3-hit shut out over the Reds to lead the Phillies to a 5-0 win. Cole is now 6-4, with a 3.36 ERA this year.
Also on Thursday night, in Clearwater, the Threshers trailed the St. Lucie Mets 8-5 with 2 out in the 9th inning, when Quintin Berry belted a 3-run home run to tie the game at 8-8. Jay Miller (.313) followed with a pinch hit single, followed by a John Urick single and when Gus Milner hit a ground ball that the Mets shortstop Rueben Tejada could not handle, the Threshers had a thrilling 9-8 come from behind win.
