The first place Lakewood BlueClaws started their critical 8 game road trip off with a 3-2 victory in Greensboro Saturday night. Heitor Correa started and picked up the victory, winning his 2nd consecutive start by going 6 innings, allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks, striking out 4. Santo Hernandez threw 2 more scoreless innings (he has given up just 1 earned run in his last 21.1 innings of work) and Ryan Bergh recorded his team leading 8th save with a scoreless 9th. It was Lakewood's 4th win in a row, and 6th in the last 8 games, and moves them to 10 games over .500 for the first time this year at 29-19.
Lakewood won despite getting just 3 hits. Travis D'Arnaud hit his 5th home run in the top of the first to get us off to a good start, and Moose Mattair contributed 2 singles and a couple of web gems. The victory, combined with Delmarva's loss in Kannapolis, gives the Claws a 2.5 game lead over the Shorebirds. The Grasshoppers fell to 4.5 games back.
Lakewood and Greensboro go at it again Sunday at 4:00, with Jesus Sanchez getting the assignment.
