The Phillies beat the Red Sox 4-1 Monday in Clearwater behind strong pitching from Roy Halladay who pitched 7.2 innings and appears ready for opening day. Ryan Howard was 1 for 1 and scored a run for Philadelphia.....Michael Bourn was 2 for 3 and scored the only run for Houston in the Astros' 9-1 loss to the Tigers. The Astros also announced that Sergio Escalona has been optioned to AAA Oklahoma City.....Jason Jaramillo was 1 for 2 and drove in the Pirate's only run in their 4-1 loss to the Twins.........6 of the 8 games in Arizona were rained out on Monday.
In minor league camp on Sunday, Julio Rodriguez, Tyler Cloyd and Mike Stutes were the most impressive pitchers in an 0-4 day for the minor league teams. Jeremy Slayden is back in camp for the Phillies after taking a year off and he had 3 hits on Sunday in the AA game. Domingo Santana, Adam Buschini and Freddy Galvis had 2 hits each in various games.
