On Wednesday in Lakeland, Ryan Howard was the only former BlueClaw to bat for the Phillies (an oddity at this time of the year!), drawing a walk in 3 plate appearances. Mike Zagurski ( 1 IP, 1 run, 2 hits, NO walks, and 2 strike outs) was the only Lakewood alum to pitch. The run against "Z-Man" was the first he has allowed in 4 innings so far. O yea, the Phillies beat the Tigers, 5-3, the big blow of the game was a 3-run home run by Brian Schneider in the 2nd inning.
I know Yohan Flande never played for Lakewood, but he has been with so many of our players as a teammate, I have adopted him here. On Wednesday, Yohan got into the game for the Atlanta Braves in the 6th inning against the Cardinals. After a walk, he gave up a 2-run home run to David Freese. He did record 3 outs. I am sure Flande is a long shot to make the opening day roster, but if he pitches well, he may get his chance at some point in the season with the big club.
Anthony Gose had a single, a walk and a stolen base for Toronto in the Jays' 4-3 loss to Tampa.....Michael Bourn picked up a single in 3 at bats for Houston in the Astros' 7-2 loss to the Mets............Michael Taylor was o for 1 for Oakland in a game won 9-2 by Texas..............Carlos Carrasco made his first appearance since the birth of his daughter on Friday, throwing 3 innings for Cleveland. Carlos allowed 2 runs on 4 hits (2 home runs), NO walks, and struck out 3. Lou Marson was 0 for 1 for the Indians. The Padres won the game, 9-2......Zack Segovia gave up a run on 2 hits in his inning for Milwaukee in an 11-8 Brewers win over the D-Backs............Jason Jaramillo struck out in his only at bat for the Pirates in the Yankees 4-2 win over Pittsburgh. "J.J." is battling for his job as the man behind Ryan Doumit and is hitting .375 so far this spring.
