some good, some not so good

Our report starts Monday afternoon in Geneva, Illinois where the Kane County Cougars defeated Burlington 13-5. The starting pitcher for Kane County was Scott Mitchinson. The Aussie, who was chosen by Oakland during the Rule 5 draft in December pitched the first 4 innings, allowing 2 runs, 1 earned on 5 hits. He walked 3 and struck out 8.

In Bowie tonight, Carlos Carrasco was sharp in his debut, going 5 innings. He threw 82 total pitches, gave up 1 run on 3 hits and 2 walks. He also struck out 7 and left the game with a 3-1 lead. In the 4th inning of the game, Jason Donald was struck by a pitch, apparently in the hand or wrist and had to leave the game. JD had already singled earlier and has hit in all 5 games for Reading. I am holding my breath waiting for a report. Shane Youmans relieved Carrasco and gave up the tying runs, so no decision for Carlos. The game is currently in the 9th inning, Pat Overholt on the mound for the R-Phils.

In the completion of the suspended game from last night in Lakeland, the Flying Tigers defeated Clearwater 6-5, despite 4 hits for Adrian Cardenas. Edgar Garcia threw 5 innings, charged with only 2 runs, but Andrew Cruse had a tough one, giving up 4 in the bottom of the 8th, and Clearwater could not recover. Dan Brauer is starting the second game and has pitched 3 hitless innings and holds a 1-0 lead. Milb.com is experiencing problems and I cannot get on the site, so this is the latest info I have access to.

Check back in the morning, hopefully I will have a report on Donald and a more complete statistical look at the Threshers.
