Another game, and another big day for Domonic Brown. Brown raised his spring average to a lofty .400 yesterday with a 3-hit game, including his 5th home run, scoring 2 and driving in 2 in the Phillies 17-10 loss to Atlanta in Lake Buena Vista. Darin Ruf had 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI, and Ryan Howard added 2 singles and scored twice. Freddy Galvis relieved Michael Young at third base and went 0 for1. Colton Murray allowed 3 runs on 3 hits, Mike Stutes gave up a run on 2 hits and Antonio Bastardo was touched for 2 runs on 2 hits, each of them throwing 1 inning..........In Jupiter, Travis d'Arnaud had a single and a double and scored both Mets' runs in New York's 3-2 loss to the Cardinals. Travis is impressing the Mets with a .345 average and making a bid the start the year with the team!
In Glendale, Tuffy Gosewisch was 1 for 2 for the Diamondbacks in Arzona's 5-3 win over the Dodgers...........In Goodyear, Lou Marson had 2 hits and drove in a run, and Michael Bourn added a hit for the Indians as Cleveland doubled up Milwaukee, 4-2..........In Surprise, the Rangers topped the Royals, 8-2. The 2 KC runs came in the 9th inning off Lisalverto Bonilla, who allowed 2 hits and a walk, but struck out 2 on the way.......In Scottsdale, Jason Donald struck out in his only at bat for the Reds in Cincinnati's 4-3 win over the Rockies.
In San Francisco, the clock struck midnight for Cinderella, as the Dominican Republic remained undefeated with a 4-1 win over the Kingdom of the Netherlands to advance to the championship game tonight against Puerto Rico. The DR has won both previous meetings in tournament, beating Puerto Rico 4-2 in San Juan, and 2-0 in Miami.
In 2009, the final was an all Asian affair (between Japan and Korea), but this year's game will have a Latino flavor.
