Sunday in Clearwater, Freddy Galvis' 2-run home run was the difference in the Phillies' 5-3 win over Baltimore. Domonic Brown had 2 hits, scored a run and drove in another, raising his spring average .375, and Ryan Howard and Darin Ruf picked up a hit each. Colby Shreve threw a 1-2-3 6th inning in relief.
In Sarasota, Vance Worley pitched 4 inning for Minnesota, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and a walk, striking out 2, as the Twins lost the other half of the Orioles, 7-1..............In Bradenton, the Yankees outscored the Pirates, 11-9. Mike Zagurski recorded 5 outs, but allowed a grand slam home run by Melky Mesa. 2 of those runs were charged to Mike...........In Kissimmee, the Astros blasted the Jays, 11-2. Anthony Gose had a sac fly to drive in one of the Jays runs, and Jason Jaramillo got an at bat for Houston...............In Lakeland, Quintin Berry walked and scored a run in his only at bat for the Tigers in their 12-10 loss to the Nationals.
In Tucson, the Diamondbacks beat the Padres, 8-6. Tuffy Gosewisch (AZ) and Jesus Merchan (SD) each had an at bat in that one..........In Phoenix, Michael Taylor was 0 for 3 for Oakland, as the Athletics doubled up the Cubs 12-6......... Over in Goodyear, the Reds and Indians played to a 7-7 draw, with Michael Bourn (0 for 3 for Tribe) and Jason Donald (0 for 2 for Cincy) getting playing time.
A 2-run home by the White Sox' Alex Rios gave Puerto Rico a 3-1 win over 2-time defending WBC champ Japan in Sunday's semifinal in San Francisco. Tonight, the Domincan Republic with play the Netherlands for the right to face Puerto Rico in Tuesday's final.
