In Philadelphia Friday, the Phillies scored 2 runs on the bottom of the 8th inning to take a 5-3 victory over the Reds. Ryan Howard and Carlos Ruiz both had hits during the big rally, and the win went to Justin De Fratus, after he bailed out Antonio Bastardo in the top of the 8th. It was the 2nd win this week for Justin, and #18 on the year for HomeSiders. Before the game, the Phillies sent Raul Valdes back to Lehigh Valley and recalled BJ Rosenberg in an attempt to strengthen the bullpen. There are now 10 former BlueClaws on the Phillies roster.................In Cleveland, Michael Bourn (.304) had 3 hits and scored a run for the Indians in their 6-3 win over Seattle..............In St Paul, Vance Worley had a good outing for the Twins, pitching 6 solid innings against Boston and allowing just 1 UNearned run on 6 hits and 3 walks, leaving the game with a 2-1 lead which, of course, the bullpen could not hold. The Sox won it in the 10th, 3-2.
In Lakewood, the BlueClaws best run of games this year continued with a 6-3 win over Greensboro. Mitch Walding had 2 hits, and Chace Numata and Willie Carmona each knocked in 2 runs, Willie with his 1st home run of the year. Numata has now reached base in 20 consecutive games. Yoel Mecias picked up his 2nd win, with Jeb Stefan (4 Ks in 2 IP) and Zack Cooper finishing it off. The Claws have won 7 of 9, and send Nick Hanson to the hill today..............In Tampa, the Yankees edged the Threshers, 4-3 in 13 innings. Nick Hernandez made another godd start for Clearwater, going 6 innings and giving up just 1 run on 3 hits and 1 walk, striking out 8. Aaron Altherr had 2 hits and 2 RBI for Clearwater.......In Reading, the Senators defeated the Fightin' Phils, 7-4. Zack Collier had 2 hits for Reading..........In Norfolk, the IronPigs held on for an 8-7 win over the Tides, with Mike Stutes retiring the final 5 men in a row for his 2nd save of the year.
In New Britain, the Rock Cats dropped a 4-3 game to New Hampshire. Tyson Brummett started for the Fisher Cats, going 5 innings and allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and 1 walk, striking out 6 and receiving no decision..............In Pensacola, Travis Mattair had 2 hits, including an RBI single during the Blue Wahoos' 4-run 5th inning rally, to help Pensacola to a 4-3 win over Mobile............In Indianaplois, the Indians beat Buffalo, 2-1. Mike Zagurski (2.45) retired all 5 hitters he faced and got credit for the win, his 1st this year...............In Iowa City, Jesus Merchan drove in 2 runs with a single in the 1st inning for Tucson, and the Padres went on to a 9-8 win over the Cubs..............In Albuquerque, Tuffy Gosewisch had a double and his 5th home run of the year for Reno, and the aces defeated the Isotopes, 9-4. Tuffy is 15 for 30 over the last 8 games (including 6 straight multi-hit games), a .500 clip which has his average up to .303 for the season!!
