In Philadelphia on Wednesday, the Cleveland Indians beat Cole Hamels and the Phillies, 10-4. Cole (1-6, 4.61) made 106 pitches in just 5 innings of work (5 runs, 6 hits, 2 walks, 4 Ks). Carlos Ruiz is finding his way back with 2 hits, and is 9 for his last 27 (.333)..........In Chicago, Josh Outman recorded 4 outs for the Rockies, but allowed 2 hits and a walk, and hit a batter, and 3 of those runners scored for the Cubs in a 6-3 win for the home team.
In Clearwater, the Threshers beat Bradenton, 4-1. Mario Hollands started and threw 4 shut out innings for Clearwater, allowing just 4 hits, NO walks, and 5 strike outs. Luis Palino got his 1st win with a scoreless inning, and Colton Murray notched his 3rd save with 2 innings of work (2 walks, 2 Ks). Carlos Alonso (.311) had 2 hits, including his 3rd home run of the year...........In Erie, the Reading Fightin Phils split a pair of games with the Sea Wolves. In the opener, Erie topped Jesse Biddle, 3-1. Jesse pitched all 6 innings for Reading (3 runs, 5 hits, 2 walks, 6 Ks), and is now 2-3, 2.95 for the year. Edgar Duran got 2 of Reading's 6 hits, and drove in a run in the game. In the nightcap, Reading rallied for 4 runs in the 6th inning to take a 7-6 victory. Jim Murphy had 2 hits including a home run (Murph has 8 HR, 28 RBI and is hitting .312), and Sebastian Valle is coming around, he had 2 hits, including an RBI double during the big rally. Sebastian is 9 for 25 ( a .360 clip) in his last 6 games after a very slow start..........In Norfolk, Steve Susdorf (.333) had 3 hits for Lehigh Valley, but the IronPigs took it on the chin, 10-1. .......In Lakewood, the BlueClaws held on to beat Delmarva, 4-3 and win consecutive series for the first time this year. Brian Pointer led the balanced attack with 2 hits and 2 RBI, and has driven in 12 runs for Lakewood in the last 8 games!! 6 other Claws had 1 hit each, including Roman Quinn, who stole 2 more bases and is up to 18 for the season. Good work by Shane Watson, who went 5 innings and allowed 2 UNearned runs on 5 hits and 1 walk to improve to 2-3 for the year. Another excellent outing for Jordan Guth out of the pen (3 IP, 1 hit, 2 walks, 3 Ks), and a heart-stopping save for Steven Inch, his 4th. Nice job by Willie Carmona on the game ending 3-2-3 double play.
In Frisco, D'Arby Myers had 2 hits and a walk, including a 2-run double during the Hound's 6-run top of the 4th on the way to an 8-4 win over the RoughRiders. Myers is hitting .252, and driven in 15 runs for the Rock Hounds.......In Corpus Christi, Domingo Santana (.259) had 2 hits including a double, and scored a run for the Hooks in their 10-8 win over San Antonio........In Toledo, Quintin Berry had an RBI double during a 3-run Mud Hens rally in the 6th inning of a 12-11 Toledo win!
