In Philadelphia Thursday night, Kyle Kendrick pitched another solid 7 innings against the Marlins, picking up his 3rd win of the season in the Phillies' 7-2 victory. Kyle (3-1, 2.43) allowed just 2 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks, striking out 5 and even getting a base hit along the way!! Domonic Brown (.266) had 3 hits, including his 4th home run of the year, and Ryan Howard (.277) also hit his 4th, and walked twice. Both Brown and Howard scored 2 runs each. The win for Kendrick was #11 for HomeSiders this year..........In Toronto, Jay Happ struggled with his control, walking 7 and allowing 2 runs on 3 hits in just 3.2 innings of work. Happ (2-2, 3.98) took the loss in a 3-1 Red Sox' win.
In Allentown, the IronPigs dropped a 9-6 game to Indianapolis. Leandro Castro (.284) had 2 hits, including his 3rd home run. BJ Rosenberg started and lasted just 4 innings, slipping to 0-3, 5.11 on the year. Brian gave up 3 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks. Jake Diekman had an exciting inning, allowing a run on 1 hit and 3 walks, striking out the side in the process, and Michael Stutes tossed a 1-2-3 9th. The news was no better in Reading, where the Sea Dogs topped the Fightin' Phils, 7-4. Edgar Duran (.259) was 3 for 4 for Reading, who slip to 12-13 on the year. Hector Neris started and went 4.2 innings, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 5 hits and 2 walks, absorbing his first loss of the year. Juan Sosa gave up 2 runs on 2 walks and 1 hit in his 1.1 innings, and Jay Johnson threw 2 shut out frames....................In Tampa, Hoby Milner (3-2) tossed 6 shut out frames (3 hits, 1 walk, 8 Ks), and Jose Mojica was 4 for 4 as the Threshers topped the Yankees, 8-0. Maikel Franco (.303) had 2 hits and 2 walks, and Aaron Altherr (.340) drove in 3 with a double and a sacrifice fly. Aaron now has 16 RBI for Clearwater.
In Lakewood, 8 different BlueClaws had 1 hit each and Nick Hanson threw 5 shut out innings (2 hits, 3 walks, 5 Ks) in his first start as Lakewood made it 2 in a row over Charleston with a 6-0 win. Jordan Guth, Zack Cooper, and Geoff Broussard finished off the shut out, the second of the year for the Claws.
In Oklahoma City, Jonathan Villar was 4 for 4, including a home run off Jesus Sanchez, and drove in 5 ruins to power the RedHawks to a 9-1 pounding of the Sounds. Villar is 28 for his last 62, a scorching .452 mark over the past 15 games. The home run was the only run allowed by Sanchez, who saw his ERA bump up to 1.42. The winning pitcher was Josh Zeid, who threw 2 perfect frames with 3 Ks to improve to 2-0, 2.19, with 2 saves..............In Buffalo, the Bisons lost a 4-1 game to Louisville. Anthony Gose (.261) had 2 hits for the Bisons............In Salt Lake City, Greg Golson (.421 in his first week with SkySox) was 1 for 3 and stole his 3rd base of the week in the Sox' 2-1 loss to the Bees...........In Pearl, Brian Schlitter threw another scoreless frame for the Smokies in their 7-0 win over the Braves. Brian has not allowed an earned run in 12.1 innings of work so far for Tennessee...........In Corpus Christi, D'Arby Myers (.270) had 2 hits for Midland, who dropped a 6-1 game to the Hooks. Domingo Santana had a hit and 2 walks, with an RBI for the winners.
