Notes from Monday

I start Monday's recap in Surprise, Arizona where Robinson Tejeda threw an inning for the Royals against the Diamondbacks, allowing a run on a home run by Arizona's Juan Miranda, but retiring the other 3 hitters he faced in the Royals 8-6 loss to the D-Backs. In Glendale, the Indians and White Sox played a 16-16 tie and decided 9 innings were enough. Lou Marson was 0 for 2 for Cleveland. Lou is having a tough spring, and so is Michael Taylor. Taylor was 0 for 2 on Monday and is hitting just .130 this spring for Oakland.

In Tampa, the Yankees beat the Phillies, 7-1. Vance Worley pitched 2 innings for Philadelphia, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits and a walk. It actually could have been worse, but Vance minimized the damage. Drew Naylor recorded 4 outs for the Phillies, 3 on strike outs, and gave up a hit and a walk. Joel Naughton, Sunday's hero, dropped another hit into open space on Monday. Other than that, Ryan Howard, Carlos Ruiz and Tuffy Gosewisch were 0 for 5 between them. The other half of the Yankees went down to Sarasota Monday night and played a 0-0 tie with the Orioles. Greg Golson, another HomeSider struggling, was 0 for 2 in that game. Over in Viera, the Nationals outscored the Astros, 14-9. Michael Bourn was 1 for 4, a lead off home run in the top of the first! Jay Happ pitched the first 2 innings for the Astros, giving up 3 UNearned runs on 3 hits and 2 walks.

Jason Donald, who was hit in the hand by Gavin Floyd on Saturday played catch on Monday with no ill effects. He is still a little sore and the Indians will try to get him into games later this week.
