Happ solid in first appearance

The Orioles defeated the Phillies 6-5 on Wednesday, with Ryan Howard going 1 for 3, a double and his first RBI of the spring. Harold Garcia walked and scored a run in his only at bat and Tuffy Gosewisch was 0 for 1 in his only at bat. Vance Worley made his 2nd appearance of the spring, throwing 2 innings and giving up 1 run on 4 hits (NO walks) and Justin De Fratus pitched 1 inning, allowing 2 runs (just 1 earned) on 3 hits, and striking out 2. Cole Hamels will make his 2nd start of the spring Thursday against the Red Sox.

The Astros played split squad games, with Jay Happ (2 IP, 1 hit, 1 K) winning in his debut 6-3 against the Tigers. Sergio Escalona also threw for Houston, giving up 1 run on 2 hits in an inning of work. The other half of the team gave up 5 to the Yankees in the 9th to lose 6-5. Michael Bourn was 1 for 3 and Jonathan Villar struck out in his only at bat and made a key error in the Yankees game winning rally. The Blue Jays topped the Rays, 5-4, Anthony Gose had a walk in 2 at bats and stole his 3rd base of the spring for Toronto.

In Arizona, the Milwaukee Brewers improved to 3-1 in Cactus League play witha 12-5 pounding of the Cubs, Zack Segovia threw an inning for the Brewers, giving up 1 run on 2 hits and a walk. The Athletics beat Cleveland, 4-3. Michael Taylor was 1 for 4 and scored a run for Oakland and Adrian Cardenas was hitless in his only at bat. The Royals beat the Dodgers, 11-5, but Carlos Monasterios tossed 2 scorsless innings, surrnedering just 2 hits (NO walks) and struck out 1).
