In Bradenton on Monday, the Pirates rallied for 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th inning, the winning run scoring on a single by Jason Jaramillo. It was a big hit for JJ, who is hitting just .194 this spring in big league camp and may be heading back to AAA (Indianapolis), and had to be quite a thrill for the 2005 BlueClaw.
In Port St. Lucie last night, Alfredo Simon continues to make his case for a spot in the Orioles rotation. The big right hander threw 6 very effective innings for Baltimore, yielding only 1 run on 4 hits (a home run by Dan Murphy) and 1 walk, and striking out 3, including the last 2 he faced (Wright and Delgado). Simon left the game with the score tied at 1-1.
Ryan Howard was 2 for 3, including his 9th home run of the spring, and Carlos Ruiz also homered and drove in 3 runs as the Phillies pounded the Astros, 13-3. Michael Bourn was 1 for 4 for Houston, and appears more comfortable at the plate in the last week.
I cannot wait for the minor league season to start, to find where our boys outside the Phillies system have been assigned and to pick up on their coverage. If anyone has any news (or pictures) that they want to share, I welcome all!!
