The 2009 World Baseball Classic is underway in the Asian pool. The entire tournament will be televised on MLBN, ESPN, and ESPN2. Defending champion Japan opened play with a 4-0 victory over China today in Tokyo. The next game in Korea vs Chinese Taipei. If you set your alarm, the game will be played at 4:30 AM Eastern time televised on ESPN2. (I believe there will be a replay Friday afternoon on the same network.) Then at 10:30 PM(which is actually Saturday afternoon in Tokyo), the loser of the second game will play China in the first elimination game of the tournament.
The USA opens play in Toronto on Saturday against Canada at 2:00 on ESPN, followed Saturday night by Venezuela vs Italy at 8:00 on MLBN. Also Saturday in San Juan, the Netherlands will face Dominican Republic at 11:00 AM(ESPN2), then Puerto Rico will take on Panama at 5:00(ESPN). On Sunday in Mexico City, Republic of South Africa will take on Cuba at 2:00(MLBN), then Mexico and Australia will tangle at 8:00(MLBN).
