The Milwaukee Brewers defeated Team Australia 10-5 on Thursday. Brad Harman was 2 for 4, a single and a home run, scoring 2 runs for the Aussies.
Oakland split their squad on Thursday , with half of the Athletics beating the Giants, 4-2. Adrian Cardenas struck out in his only at bat. "A.C." is 2 for 9 so far this spring, and appears to be slated for AAA Sacramento. The other half of the A's topped South Africa's WBC team, 6-1.
The Braves doubled up Venezuela, 8-4. Victor Moreno was the losing pitcher, suffering through a very tough inning. Victor walked 4 hitters, gave up 1 hit, and all 5 scored. Ouch!!
The Reds scored 5 in the 10th inning to defeat the Pirates, 10-6, the last 4 runs coming on a walk off grand slam by Darnell McDonald. McDonald played in 4 games for the Twins in 2007, and 17 games for the Orioles in 2004. Jason Jaramillo was 0 for 2 for the Pirates, and is hitting .286 so far this spring.
The Houston Astros rallied for 6 runs in the 5th inning to defeat Team Panama, 7-5. Michael Bourn was 1 for 4 and stole another base, his 4th by my count. Avelino Asprilla relieved Ruben Tejada at shortstop and was 0 for 1. It appears Avelino will be the utility man for Panama.
Team USA defeated the Phillies 9-6. Ryan Howard belted a 3-run homer, Jason Donald added a solo shot, and Lou Marson went 2 for 4. Kyle Kendrick started and took the loss, pitching 2.2 innings, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits(including a 3-run homer by Chipper Jones), before giving way to Antonio Bastardo, who did not fare much better. Bastardo gave up 5 runs in 2.1 innings, including 3 home runs. Ryan Braun and Brian McCann went back-to back on him in the 4th, and then Adam Dunn hit a 2-run bomb in the 5th. Joe Bisenius pitched an inning against the Phils, giving up 1 run on 3 hits.
