Kevin Howard has moved from the Mariners system to the Padres system, and is in minor league camp at San Diego's spring home in Arizona. It appears he is slated for AAA, which will be the Portland Beavers. Howard hit .278 last year, splitting the year between Las Vegas and Tacoma. In just 20 games for Tacoma, he belted 8 home runs, prompting the Padres to sign him as a free agent this off-season. He spent about 6 weeks with Lakewood in 2007.
After yesterday's game in Tampa, the Phillies have reassigned 12 players to minor league camp, including Andrew Carpenter, Drew Naylor, Antonio Bastardo, Sergio Escalona, and Tuffy Gosewisch. No surprises there.
The Reds have sent Matt Maloney back to minor league camp, assigning him to AAA Louisville. Matt gave up 6 earned runs on 9 hits in 6 innings of work in 3 games for the Reds.
