Josh Outman continues on a good roll, following up a 7-inning shut out performance against KC last week with another good 6 innings Tuesday night in New York. The Athletics beat the Mets, 7-3, with Outman allowing just 1 earned run (2 overall) on 4 hits and 2 walks, striking out 4 and improving to 3-1, 2.86 in his 6 starts so far. Josh looks to be completely recovered from his Tommy John surgery and back to top major league form.
In St Louis, the Phillies exploded for 9 runs in the 8th inning, to snatch a 10-2 win from the Cards. Mike Stutes (2.38) was the beneficiary of the outburst and recorded his 2nd major league win, despite giving up a run in his inning of work, and Antonio Bastardo (0.96) threw another scoreless frame. Carlos Ruiz was 4 for 4 on the night, with a run scored and an RBI, and Ryan Howard was hit by a pitch during the rally, and then came to bat a second time in the 8th and drove in a run (#59) with a single. He also walked twice on the night. Domonic Brown, who has been playing almost everyday, took an 0 for 3, and saw his average dip to .213.
The 2 victories give the HomeSide a total of 46 major league wins this year.
In Arlington, Michael Bourn had 3 hits, including 2 doubles, scored 2 runs, drove in 2 more and stole 2 more bases(32) for the Astros. Sergio Escalona faced 1 hitter, Josh Hamilton, and gave up a home run. It was the first earned run allowed by Sergio (2.31) in 11 appearances in June.............. In Cleveland, Lou Marson was 1 for 3, but the Indians dropped a 4-3 decision to Colorado.
