Kyle Kendrick is quietly having a very good season. Performing well whether starting or coming out of the pen, Kyle was given the assignment against the Marlins Wednesday afternoon, and gave the Phillies 7 solid innings in an 8-1 romp. He allowed just 1 run on 5 hits and a walk, striking out 5 and keeping his pitches down well enough to record 11 ground outs. That's when you know he is doing well. In the night game, Carlos Ruiz had 2 hits and 2 walks, including the walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th to give the Phils the 5-4 victory on the sweep. We could have had more, as Gavin Floyd threw a complete game, but was outdone by Carl Pavano, as the Twins topped the Sox, 4-1. Gavin gave up 11 hits and 2 walks, and is now 6-6, 3.94 for Chicago. Meanwhile, in Houston, Jay Happ struggled through 5 innings, throwing 108 pitches against the Pirates, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks, while striking out 7. Happ left the game with a 3-2 lead, but the pen failed the Astros, and the Pirates won, 7-3. Michael Bourn (.283) had 3 hits and 2 more stolen bases (he stole third base twice, making it 29 on the year).
