Rosenberg gets first win

Another chapter in what I see as an exciting story- the conversion of B.J. Rosenberg to the rotation. In his 3rd start for Reading, "Rosie" went 6 great innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits, just 1 walk, to get his 1st victory of the year in the R-Phils 4-2 win over Akron. Chris Kissock recorded 2 outs, and was awarded his first "hold" and Justin De Fratus threw the last 2 innings (1 hit, 1 walk, 2 Ks) for his 5th save. (In Lakewood, fans will remember Rosenberg saving games for De Fratus)

Freddy Galvis led the Reading offense, going 3 for 4, including a double, with a run scored, Carlos Rivero had 2 hits, including his 5th home run, and Matt Rizzotti belted his 9th home run. "Riz" has been hot all year, and is hitting .324 with the 9 home runs and 34 RBI. Shane Victorino was 0 for 4.

Jarred Cosart put in another fine effort and the Clearwater Threshers defeated St. Lucie, 4-1. Cosart went 5.2 inning and gave up just 1 run on 4 hits, with 4 walks and 4 Ks, and picked up his 6th win of the season. Derrick Loop recorded 4 outs and Tyler Cloyd threw a 1-2-3 8th inning, before Justin Friend came on for his 18th save. The Threshers are a very impressive 33-19, but they are still 6 game back of Daytona as we come down the stretch of the first half season.

Leandro Castro, Jonathan Singleton, Sebastian Valle, Jeremy Barnes and Cesar Hernandez all had 2 hits for the Threshers.

In Huntsville, Darren Byrd pitched the final 2 innings of the game for the Stars against Tennessee, giving up an UNearned run on 3 hits and a walk, and took the loss in a 2-1 Smokies win. Darren is 4-3, 3.71 with 1 save in 17 games for the Milwaukee affiliate.............In Nashville, Zack Segovia threw 1.2 innings for the Sounds in their 7-2 loss to the Iowa Cubs. Zack (1-2, 5.70) allowed an UNearned run, and has had a rough start, allowing 15 runs in 16 appearances covering 23.2 innings. With 32 hits allowed and 14 walks, that's almost 2 base runners an inning. Tough to work under pressure like that all the time.............In Rochester, Andy Baldwin lost his second straight start, but pitched well enough in the Red Wings 5-0 loss to Toledo. Andy went 7 inning and allowed the 5 runs, but only 2 were earned, on just 4 hits and NO walks, but cannot win if his team does not score! Baldwin has had a good season for the Minnesota affiliate, making 9 starts on schedule, and posting a 3-5, 5.19 mark. Although he has given up 55 hits in 52 innings, he has walked only 12 and has been challenging hitters regularly. Barring an injury, Baldwin may see his first September call up for the Twins this September.

In Jacksonville, Quintin Berry lead off the game with a walk, and scored a run to get the Mudcats off to a quick start. Unfortunately, it was all the scoring they would do all day, falling to the Suns, 3-1. Berry has played 29 games for the Mudcats, batting a team-leading .314, with 10 doubles, a triple and 15 RBI. He is also 12 for 13 stealing bases.............In Adelanto (that's in California if you are new at this), Jonathan Villar had a hit and a walk, drove in a run and scored 2 more helping the Lancaster JetHawks to an 8-2 win over the High Desert Mavericks. Villar, who just turned 20 a month ago, is hitting .259 with 7 doubles, 4 triples, 4 home runs, 26 RBI and has stole 20 bases in 26 attempts.
