Vance Worley threw 2-hit shut out ball for 6 innings in Charlotte Friday night to record his 3rd win for IronPigs in his first start since being sent back. Vance walked 1 and struck out 9 in the Pigs' 5-1 win. In Richmond, Austin Hyatt went Worley 1 better, going 7 shut out innings in the R-Phils 5-0 win over the Flying Squirrels. Austin gave up 4 hits and 1 walk, picking up 8 strike outs to notch his 6th win for Reading. Recently promoted Tyler Cloyd made his first appearance with a scoreless frame and Justin De Fratus matched it. Derrick Mitchell and Mike Spidale drove in 2 runs each.
In Clearwater, Sebastian Valle singled home Leandro Castro in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Threshers a 5-4 win over St. Lucie. Castro had 2 hits on the night, including a 2 run home run in the 7th to give Clearwater a 4-3 advantage. Jonathan Singleton and Troy Hanzawa also had 2 hits each, and Jiwan James led off the 1st inning with his 3rd dinger of the season. Brody Colvin started and went 7 strong innings, allowing just 3 runs on 8 hits, NO walks, and 5 Ks. Eric Pettis blew the save, allowing the first run since his promotion (a total of 15 innings over 9 games), and Justin Friend (1.07) picked up the win.
In Sacramento, Adrian Cardenas (.337) had a walk and a hit, and drove in a run for the River Cats in their 2-1 win over Salt Lake.......In Durham, the Pawtucket Red Sox beat the Bulls, 6-3. R.J. Swindel pitched the final 2 innings for Durham (1 walk, 1 K). R.J. has given up just 2 runs on 4 hits and 4 walks over his last 12 innings for the Bulls.
In Jacksonville, Quintin Berry was not in the starting line-up for the Carolina Mudcats. But in the 9th inning of a 1-0 game, Berry came on as a pinch runner, and promptly stole second base to put the tying run in scoring position. It was his 13th steal this year, and with only 1 out, 2 Mudcats failed to bring Berry home.
