Lee awesome again...Ryno hits #16

Ryan Howard belted his 16th home run with a man on in the 4th inning, 1 of 2 hits on the night for Ryno, and Cliff Lee threw his 2nd straight complete game shut out as the Phillies beat St Louis, 4-0. Howard now has 61 RBI, 2 behind Prince Fielder for the NL lead. As for Lee, in his last 4 starts, he has allowed only 1 run in 33 innings (out of a possible 36), picking up 4 wins to post an 8-5, 2.87 mark. Lee, Roy Halladay and Cole Hamels could all have 10 wins by the break; which should put all 3 of them on the all-star squad.

Quite a performance in New York last night by Gio Gonzalez, throwing 7 stellar innings for Oakland against the Mets. Gonzalez gave up just 1 run on only 4 hits and 1 walk, and struck out 8. Gio has been in the Athletics rotation all season, and is 6-5, 2.87 in 15 starts for a club that struggles to score runs. He won 15 games in 33 starts in 2010.

I guess I should explain that Gio never played for Lakewood, but was traded into and out of the Phillies system after I started following BlueClaws around. During his time at Reading, I had a very nice conversation with him, and liked him immediately as a person. He also has good stuff and is easy to root for.
