'Claws start trip with win

The Lakewood BlueClaws started their 8-game trip through North Carolina with a 5-4 win over Hickory Wednesday night. Chance Chapman (2.76 ERA) turned in another quality start, tossing 6 innings, giving up just 3 runs, 2 earned, on 8 hits and 1 walk, striking out 4, and receiving no decision. Zack Sterner picked up the win. Sterner, Mr Opportunity, is now 8-1, 1.82 in 15 appearances this season. Sergio Escalona recorded his 10 "hold", and Jared Simon put save #20 in the books. Simon is now the all time save leader for Lakewood.

Tim Kennelly (2 RBI, .362) and Matt Rizzotti posted 2 hits each for Lakewood. "Rizz" is 4 for 9 (.444) in 3 games since returning from the DL. The BlueClaws have now won 13 of 17 and remain 3 games behind the Power in the north division. Vance Worley will make his 3rd start for the 'Claws tonight.

Last night in Manchester, New Hampshire, Greg Golson had 2 hits, including a home run, Jason Donald was 2 for 3 and a walk, with a run scored, and both Jeremy Slayden and Lou Marson had walks in the EL All-Star game. Josh Outman pitched a scoreless inning and Pat Overholt struck out the only hitter he faced. The North beat the South 5-3. Reading resumes play tonight in Bowie with a double header, Edgar Garcia and Travis Minix will get the assignment for the R-Phils.

The Threshers were rained out last night in Brevard County and will also play 2 tonight, my guess is Carlos Monasterios (2-5) and Drew Naylor (still looking for win #1 since his promotion) for Clearwater.
