Monday in Cincinnati, Cole Hamels came off the DL and threw 6 fine innings against the Reds in the Phillies' 3-2 win. Cole allowed just 1 run on only 2 hits, striking out 7 for no decision. The win went to Antonio Bastardo (6-0, 1.42) who struck out 3 of the 4 hitters he faced in his inning. Mike Stutes also pitched , allowing a run on 3 hits in his inning, notching his 8th hold.
In Baltimore, the Yankees beat Alfredo Simon and the Orioles, also by a 3-2 margin. Simon (4-7, 4.26) pitched well, going 7 innings and giving up 3 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks, striking out 6. If he could have 1 pitch back, it would be the 2-run home run by Nick Swisher in the 4th frame.
The win by Bastardo was the 78th for the HomeSide.
