Jessie great, but no luck

The BlueClaws wasted another good effort from Jessie Biddle, and are seeing their season slip away in Greensboro, losing for the 3rd straight night, 2-0. Biddle is 5-8 and certainly pitching much better than that would indicate. In his last 10 starts he has pitched 57.2 innings with a 2.02 ERA and has won just 2 games over that time. Last night he went 6 innings and gave up just 1 run on 2 hits and 1 walk, striking out 6 and taking the loss! The run was a home run by Marcell Ozuna in the first inning. Hector Neris gave up a run in his 3rd appearance since his return from Williamsport, and Ryan Duke (1.59) continues to have have a great debut season, throwing another scoreless frame, striking out 2. Drafted out of Oklahoma in June, Duke has now pitched 18.2 innings combined for Williamsport and Lakewood, allowing just 2 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks, with 22 Ks. Bill Rice (.385 in 13 games with team) stays hot with 2 more hits, and is 11 for 19 (.579) over the last 5.

The Threshers fell out of fist place, dropping a 2-1 decision in Daytona. Julio Rodriguez (15-7, 3.14) took the loss, giving up the 2 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks, striking out 7 in 5 innings of work. Eric Pettis (.2.70) threw 2 scoreless frames in relief, but the offense could not muster a rally. Clearwater got just 4 hits, with Cyle Hankerd's 3rd home run the lone tally. Dunedin grabbed first place, with a 6-4 win over Tampa. The Threshers and the Yankees are 1 game off the pace.

In Altoona, the Curve beat Reading, 7-0. Derrick Mitchell (.268) and Paco Figueroa (.255) had 2 hits each for Reading. Joe Esposito (5-4, 5.15; 5 IP, 2 runs , 6 hits, 3 walks), Chris Kissock (5.08; 2 IP, 3 runs, 3 hits, 2 walks), and Derrick Loop (5.04; 1 IP, 2 runs, 1 hit, 3 walks) pitched for Reading, and Mike Dubee (2.15) threw 2 scoreless innings for Altoona, despite allowing 4 hits. Thanks to Bryce Harper's walk-off home run in Harrisburg, Reading remains tied with Trenton for the final playoff spot. New Hampshire pulled 7 games ahead of the pair with a 7-1 win over Akron. Travis d'Arnaud (.330) hit his 17th home run for the Fisher Cats, and Kevin Howard had a hit and a walk, and drove in 2 more for New Hampshire.

In Lancaster, Jonathan Singleton (.326 since trade) had a single and a triple and scored a run for the JetHawks in San Jose's 8-2 win...............In Frisco, Edgar Garcia (3.54) retired all 8 hitters he faced, 2 by strike out, recording his 3rd save for Northwest Arkansas in the Naturals' 2-0 win over the RoughRiders............In Zebulon, Quintin Berry (.284) had a hit and a walk, stole 2 bases (30 on the year), and scored 2 runs for Carolina, but the Mudcats lost to Montgomery, 12-7..................In Jackson, the Generals beat Huntsville, 11-6. Darren Byrd (3.73) pitched 2.2 inning in relief for the Stars, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits, NO walks, 4 Ks...........In Salt Lake City, Robinson Tejeda (3.58) allowed a run in his inning for Omaha, in the Bees 6-2 win over the Storm Chasers...............In Rochester, Andy Baldwin gave up 5 runs in the first inning, and then completed the game, throwing 8 innings for Rochester in their 6-3 loss to the Clippers. This game was suspended on June 10 in Columbus, and completed yesterday. Baldwin (6-10, 5.14) allowed 10 hits and 2 walks, striking out 6, and has alternated between good outings and bad ones for the last few weeks............In Syracuse, the Chiefs beat the Yankees, 7-4. Greg Golson had a double and scored a run, and also threw out a runner at home for Scranton............In Louisville, Jason Jaramillo (.276) had 2 hits and scored a run for Indianapolis in the Indians' 3-2 win over the Bats..........In Charlotte, the Knights defeated Norfolk, 4-3 in 14 innings. Joe Bisenius (3.34) started and pitched 6 inning for Charlotte, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and 1 walk, striking out 4.
