Hail to the Tribe

Yes, I admit- I'm catching it. The Indians are an exciting story! Cleveland rallied for 3 in the 9th late last night to defeat the Athletics, 4-1. They have won 7 straight, and are a major league leading 20-8, a game better than the Phillies. But wait, it does not end there. The Columbus Clippers defeated Charlotte, 8-2 Tuesday night in North Carolina for their 13th straight win. They are 14-3 away from home, and 21-5 overall! I cannot remember when the last time a major league team, and their AAA affiliate were both this hot at the same time. They are a combined 41-13.

Back to business at hand, both Cole Hamels and Jay Happ picked up wins on Tuesday. Hamels was masterful, throwing a complete game in the Phillies' 4-1 victory over the Nationals. He allowed only 5 hits and 1 walk and was never really challenged. Cole is looking very good, it could be his biggest year ever. As of now, he is 4-1, 2.66 and locked in! He is so awesome to watch when he is pitching like this! O, I forgot, he had 2 hits including a triple, and scored a run. Ryan Howard had 2 more hits, and a walk, scored a run and drove in #29.

Happ was not so dominant, but just as effective, throwing 6.1 innings, and giving up 4 runs on 8 hits and 1 walk, striking out 5 on the way. He is now 2-4, with a still too high but coming down 6.23. It helps to have offense and Happ's mates gave it to him, pounding the Reds, 10-4. Among them was Michael Bourn, who was 1 for 5 and scored a run for the Astros.

In New York, Taylor Buchholz suffered his first loss of the year, giving up a 10th inning home run to Aubrey Huff as the Giants beat the Mets, 7-6...............In Oklahoma City, the RedHawks defeated the Nashville Sounds, 12-4. Zack Segovia pitched the final 3 inning for Nashville, giving up 2 runs. Both runs were scored in his first inning, after which he put up a couple of scoreless frames.........In Sacramento, Adrian Cardenas doubled to lead off the bottom of the 8th inning of a 0-0 tie, and scored what was the winning run in the River Cats 2-0 win over Salt Lake. It was the second hit of the game for Cardenas, who is hitting .355........In Louisville, in game 2 of the doubleheader, Matt Maloney made the start for the Bats and was great! Matt went 5.1 innings, and gave up just 1 run on 6 hits, NO walks, striking out 5. He received no decision, but the Bats lost, 2-1 to Norfolk...........In Indianapolis, in the 1st of a doubleheader there, the Indians beat the Durham Bulls, 5-2. Jason Jaramillo reached base in all 3 of his at bats, with a single and 2 walks for Indianapolis.

Domonic Brown continues working his way back, hitting a double in 4 at bats, and throwing out a runner at first base in the IronPigs 3-2 win over Buffalo. Mike Zagurski threw a scoreless 9th inning to record his 2nd save...........In Reading, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats defeated the R-Phils, 7-2. Chris Kissock was the starter for Reading, going 7 innings and keeping the team in the game. He left with the score 4-2 in favor of New Hampshire. After B. J. Rosenberg threw a scoreless 8th, Jacob Diekman gave up 3 in the 9th on 4 hits and Jordan Ellis had to come in to get the last out. It was the first time this year Diekman gave up multiple runs. Freddy Galvis (.255, single, double, run scored)had the only 2 hit game, and Matt Rizzotti (.326) hit his 3rd home run.
