In Clearwater, Julio Rodriguez improved to a stellar 5-0 on the year with 7 shut out innings against Dunedin, as the Threshers beat the Jays, 4-0. Julio allowed just 3 hits and 1 walk, striking out 6 and lowering his ERA to a very impressive 1.67. Eric Pettis made his 2nd appearance for Clearwater since his promotion, throwing a scoreless 8th inning. Jeremy Barnes led the shark attack with 3 more hits (Barnes is hitting .435 since his call-up), Leandro Castro had a single and a double and Darin Ruf smacked his 3rd home run, as the Threshers raised their record to 20-10. They are still 2 games behind Daytona.
In Charleston, David Buchanan was just as good, throwing a complete game 6 hitter against the River Dogs in a 5-1 BlueClaw's win. David gave up NO walks, struck out 7 and improved to 4-1, 1.77 on the year. Torre Langley had 3 hits for Lakewood, Miguel Alverez added 2 hits and Anthony Hewitt belted his 3rd home as Lakewood defeated Charleston for the 6th time in less than 2 weeks. The teams will wrap up the season series today.
Reading used a different formula to get to their win, pounding out 19 hits against Harrisburg to post a 13-6 win. The R-Phils hit 4 home runs- Freddy Galvis (2 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Cody Overbeck (his 9th), Carlos Rivero ( 4 hits, 4 runs scored), and Derrick Mitchell (3 hits, 4 RBI) all went deep for Reading. Tuffy Gosewisch also had 3 hits and 2 RBI and Matt Rizzotti (.327) chipped in with 2 hits of his own. Ryan Edell was the starter and winner, with Tyson Brummett (2 IP, 2 runs, 4 hits, 2 Ks), Jacob Diekman (1-2-3 inning) and Jordan Ellis (scoreless 9th) finishing up for the win. Reading is 18-10, with a 1 game lead over New Hampshire.
O yeah, Chance Chapman was sent back to Lehigh Valley from Reading to take Scott Mathieson's spot on the roster. Who could blame Chapman if he didn't know where he was when he woke up this morning, having been shuttled back and forth so many times recently? I can't even keep track of where he is!!
