Tuesday's HomeSide Highlights

It's April, HomeSiders and that means baseball's regular season is upon us. The Caribbean Series was fun and the WBC was more entertaining than I anticipated, but its APRIL, BABY!!!

The Phillies and Braves will kick off the major league season Sunday night on ESPN, and the minor league teams swing into action next Thursday.

In Clearwater, on Tuesday, future BlueClaw Anthony Gose, doubled, homered and drove in 4 runs in Lakewood's 10-2 win over the Charleston River Dogs. Luis Arzeno also homered, driving in a pair and scoring twice. Jason Knapp struck out 6, allowing just 1 run. The Tampa Yankees topped Clearwater, 6-4, despite 3 hits, including 2 doubles by Cody Overbeck. Carlos Carrasco pitched 5 innings for Lehigh Valley, and gave up 10 hits while striking out 5. I hear Carlos is working on a new grip for his curveball. The Yankees won that game, 9-6. Trenton also defeated Reading, 7-5, although shortstop Ozzie Chavez picked 3 of Reading's 10 hits.

Jason Jaramillo is still in camp with Pittsburgh, and after his game winning hit Monday, walked twice, scored a run and drove one in in the Pirates 12-8 loss to the Twins on Tuesday. The Astros beat the Braves, 8-3, Michael Bourn had a triple and scored a run in that one. The Phillies pounded the Blue Jays, 9-1, Ryan Howard had an RBI single (that's 22 RBI for Ryan).

Out in Phoenix, Josh Outman and the A's beat the Royals, 7-2. Josh went 5.2 innings, giving up just 2 runs on 5 hits and 1 walk, picking up 6 K's. Robinson Tejeda threw a scoreless frame for KC, striking out 2 of the 3 hitters he faced.

I notice there are 3 games on MLBN today, Orioles/Marlins at 1:00, Rangers/Angels at 5:00 and Diamondbacks/Brewers at 9:00.

Only 8 days until the first game in Lakewood!!
