The Lakewood BlueClaws rode another great pitching performance to their 8th victory in the last 11 games, topping Hagerstown, 6-0. Jon Velasquez (4-0, 1.23) made his first start of the year, picking up his 4th win by throwing 5 solid shut out innings. Jon gave up just 2 hits and 1 walk, struck out 4 and looked comfortable throughout. Justin De Fratus (3rd hold, 1.50) took over and was equally impressive, striking out 5 in 3 innings, giving up just 1 hit before Esmelvin Jimenez got the last 3 outs.
In the meantime, Lakewood pounded out 14 hits. Harold Garcia (.314, 2 triples, 2 runs) and Jesus Villegas (.444, 2 RBI) had 3 hits each for the BlueClaws. Travis D'Arnaud had a double and a home run to increase his team leading RBI total to 15, and Sebastian Valle and Zack Collier also had 2 hits for Lakewood. The BlueClaws are now 9-6 and just a half game behind Kannapolis for first place. Tyler Cloyd (1-1) will get the ball today.
