Mendez gone

Over the weekend the Phillies made some cuts, and the biggest surprise to me was the release of Giancarlo Mendez, who single-handedly carried the Lakewood offense early last season.

Monday in Clearwater, the Phillies ran into a buzz saw named Jon Lester. Lester threw 7 strong innings for the Red Sox, allowing Philadelphia just 2 hits and striking out 10 in Boston's 6-0 win. Freddy Galvis had 1 of the hits, while Hector Neris (1 IP, 1 hit, 1 walk, 2 Ks), Tyson Brummett (1.2 IP, 1 run, 2 hits), and Lisalberto Bonilla (.1 IP, 1 hit) all made appearances.

Out in Tempe, the Rockies defeated the Angels, 6-2. Josh Outman threw the final 2 inning for Colorado, allowing 2 hits and a walk, striking out 3. Josh threw 19 pitches, 14 for strikes...........In Goodyear, the Brewers edged the Indians, 6-5. Jason Donald (shortstop and third base) was 0 for 2, and Lou Marson walked twice in 3 plate appearances for Cleveland.
