Thursday's notes

The Phillies split their squad again Thursday, with part of them staying in Clearwater and defeating the Braves, 6-4. Carlos Ruiz was 1 for 3, and is hitting a robust .538 so far this spring. Freddy Galvis played second base again, going 0 for 4, but drove in another run and played very solid in the field. Troy Hanzawa (0 for 1) and Tim Kennelly (0 for 1) also got into the game. Antonio Bastardo pitched a scoreless frame, keeping his spring ERA at 0.00, and Michael Bourn was 1 for 4 for Atlanta..........The other half of the team went down to Port Charlotte for a 6-6 draw with the Rays. Steve Susdorf was the DH, banging out a single and a double and scoring a run, and Tuffy Gosewisch drove in a run with a sacrifice.

In Lakeland, the Tiger beat the Orioles, 4-2. Quintin Berry was a late sub, going 0 for 1 for the Tigers after his big day Wednesday..........In Kissimmee, the Blue Jays topped the Astros, 6-3. Anthony Gose (.316) had 2 hits, scored a run and drove in another, and Travis d'Arnaud walked and scored a run for Toronto. Kyle Drabek looked good, throwing 3 innings and allowing just 1 UNearned run on 1 hit, and NO walks, picking up 1 strike out.


The Indians have announced they have placed Carlos Carrasco on the 60-day DL as he continues top recover from elbow surgery. Carlos is in camp and will stay in Arizona to continue his rehab when the team heads north. There is no timetable for his return. The Indians beat the White Sox 12-3 in Mesa, Jason Donald walked twice and scored 2 runs for Cleveland.........In Glendale, the Royals beat the Dodgers, 8-5. Greg Golson's nightmare spring continues, Greg struck out in his only at bat and looks to be pressing at this point............Michael Taylor walked and scored a run in his only at bat for Oakland, as the Atletics outscored the Rangers, 11-7...........In Scottsdale, the Rockies beat the Cubs, 7-5. Adrian Cardenas had a double and scored a run for Chicago.
