The Phillies evened their spring record at 5-5 with a 4-1 win over over the Pirates in Bradenton Monday. Domonic Brown had an RBI-triple and scored a run, Carlos Ruiz had a hit in 3 at bats, while Tuffy Gosewisch was 0 for 1, and Freddy Galvis played defense and had a sacrifice in his only plate appearance. Vance Worley was great, retiring all 12 hitters he faced over 4 shut out frames, striking out 8 of the 12! Antonio Bastardo also threw a scoreless inning.
In Jupiter, Michael Bourn was 1 for 4 for Atlanta, as the Braves came up on the short end of a 5-4 loss to the Cardinals.........In Dunedin, the Jays beat the Orioles, 4-1. Anthony Gose (.333 so far) was 0 for 1 in the game, and Travis d'Arnaud did not bat...............Over in Lakeland, the Tigers and Mets played a 10-inning 7-7 draw. Quintin Berry was 0 for 3 for Detroit, his spring average dropping to .364.........Back in Tampa, the Astros beat the Yankees, 4-3. Jonathan Singleton (.375 in big league camp) had a single in his only at bat.
In Glendale, the Athletics beat the White Sox, 9-4. Michael Taylor was 0 for 1 for Oakland, and speaking of the White Sox, the rumor mill has Toronto talking to Chicago about the availability of Gavin Floyd. So I will keep a close eye on that one.......In Mesa, the Cubs topped the Reds, 8-6. Lendy Castillo continues his good camp, throwing another scoreless inning for the Cubs, striking out 2..... Back in Goodyear, I watched Jason Donald go 2 for 3 on MLB last night. "JD" looked good at the plate as he bids for a spot in the crowded Indians' infield.
