Alfredo tops Carlos!

The Baltimore Orioles ended their 9 game losing streak behind some great pitching by Alfredo Simon, beating the Indians, 6-5. Simon picked up his 2nd win of the season, outdueling Carlos Carrasco, by throwing 7 strong innings and allowing the Indians just 2 runs on 3 hits and 1 walk, ending a streak of 10 consecutive games where Oriole's starters had allowed 10 hits or more. Alfredo threw just 79 pitches in his 7 frames and left the game with a 3-2 advantage. Carrasco did not pitch badly, going 7 himself and allowing 3 runs on just 5 hits and 3 walks, striking out 6, to slip to 8-7 on the year. Lou Marson had a walk and scored a run in 2 at bats for Cleveland.

Simon will leave the Orioles today to return to his native DR, where he faces charges stemming from an incident last New Year's Eve, when he discharged his gun into the air during the celebration.

In Houston, Sergio Escalona (2.60) was in the right place at the right time, throwing a 1-2-3 8th inning against Pittsburgh and then picked up the victory when the Astros rallied for 3 runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 6-4 win. Michael Bourn (.291) had 3 hits, including an RBI single in the winning rally, and was caught stealing for just the 5th time in 40 attempts. The win was the 2nd of the year for Escalona, and makes a total of 56 for HomeSiders in the majors.
