Ryan Howard had 4 hits, including his 18th home run of the year, and drove in 4 runs (he now has 71) leading the Phillies to a 14-2 win over the Marlins. Domonic Brown added 2 hits and a walk, scoring a run and driving 1 in, and Carlos Ruiz chipped in with a hit and run scored to back Cole Hamels' 10th win of the year. Cole went 8 good innings, allowing just 2 runs on 8 hits, 1 walk, and 5 strike outs. Scott Mathieson threw a scoreless 9th inning to finish.
Make it 51 major league wins for the HomeSide!!
Before the game, the Phillies sent Vance Worley back to Lehigh Valley and called up John Mayberry.
Unfortunatley, Carlos Carrasco was due for an off night, and the Yankees gave it him. After shutting the Bombers down in the Bronx last month, New York jumped all over Carlos last night in Cleveland, scoring 6 runs on 10 hits and 3 walks in just 4 innings in the Yank's 9-2 win. Lou Marson had an RBI hit for the Tribe.
The red hot Pirates (did I say red hot Pirates!?) beat the Astros, 5-1 to improve to 45-41 on the year. Who would've thunk it? Sorry, I digress! Anyway, Michael Bourn (.292) had 2 hits for Houston in the losing effort.
