On a day when the usually spectacular pitching of the Phillies let them down, the offense responded with 4 home runs and a come from behind, 8-6 win. Chase Utley was 3 for 3, with 2 home runs, and 4 RBI. Chase is 7 for his last 10. Ryan Howard hit his team leading 19th, pinch-hitting to ignite the game-winning, 3 home run 5-run rally in the 7th (RBI #75). Domonic Brown had a double, and Carlos Ruiz added a pinch-hit double.
Utley's first homer, a 3-run jack in the 1st, gave Kyle Kendrick an early 3-0 lead and it looked good for awhile. Kyle threw 5 shut out innings in the heat, before giving up 2 home runs in the 6th to tie the game. Mike Stutes came on, stranded a runner, then threw the 7th and gave up the go-ahead run on 2 hits. The Phillies big inning made Stutes (5-1, 3.38) the winning pitcher. Antonio Bastardo gave up 2 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks in the 8th and saw his ERA go to 1.46.
The win for Stutes is #63 for the HomeSide.
In Chicago, Michael Bourn had a walk and hit, and was thrown out stealing for only the 6th time all year (in 43 attempts) as the Astros lost to the Cubs, 5-1. Sergio Escalona faced 2 hitters, retired 1 of them, and the other got a hit and scored.
