The BlueClaws exploded for 10 runs on 18 hits in the finale of their road trip Sunday, topping the Shorebirds, 10-5. Anthony Hewitt had 3 hits, including his 9th home run, Geancarlo Mendez drove in 5 runs, and David Buchanan recorded his 9th win. Everyone in the starting line up had at least 1 hit for Lakewood.
Not to be out done, the Clearwater Threshers pounded out 11 runs on 13 hits to top Lakeland, 11-3. Darin Ruf led the Clearwater attack with 3 hits, and Ruf, Jonathan Singleton, Jeremy Barnes and Cesar Hernandez drove in a pair of runs each. Jonathan Pettibone threw 8 innings, and allowed just 3 UNearned runs on only 5 hits, NO walks, and improved to 8-5, 2.67 for the season. The Threshers are now 4-7 in the second half, 43-37 overall.
In Reading, Tyler Cloyd pitched the R-Phils to a 4-3 win over Richmond. Tyler threw 7 strong innings, allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits, NO walks and 6 Ks, improving to 2-1 for Reading, and 5-2 overall. He also had a 2-out RBI hit to help then offense!! Matt Rizzotti (.288) had the only multi hit game for Reading, who are now 42-40, 6 games behind first place New Hampshire, which dropped a 5-2 decision to Portland despite the 10th home run of the season for Travis d'Arnaud, who was 3 for 4 for the Fisher Cats.
In Kodak, Quintin Berry (.282) returned to the Mudcats starting line up and pounded 3 hits, including a double, but the Smokies beat Carolina, 6-5 in 10 innings...........In Omaha, Robinson Tejeda threw 2 perfect innings for the Storm Chasers in a 2-0 loss to the Isotopes..........In Iowa City, the Cubs pounded New Orleans, 8-1. The Zephyrs only run scored on a pinch hit RBI double in the 9th inning by Jesus Merchan...............In Columbus, Jason Donald (.298) had a single and a double and scored a run for the Clippers in their 4-2 win over Louisville.
