With the rain around the country cancelling games on Friday everywhere, Saturday was doubleheader day.
In Clearwater, Trevor May threw a 1-hit shut out, striking out 9, as the Threshers beat Jupiter, 2-0 in the opener of their 2 games. Trevor is now 6-5, 3.32 on the year and leads the FSL in strike outs with 123. The runs scored on Darin Ruf's 7th home run of the year, 1 of only 2 hits by Thresher hitters. Darin now has 49 RBI.
In the nightcap, Clearwater wasted another superb effort from Jonathan Pettibone, losing 8-2 on a 7-run outburst by the Hammerheads in the 7th. "Bone" went 6 solid innings, giving up just 1 run on 6 hits and 1 walk, striking out 6 and leaving the game with a 2-1 advantage. Eric Pettis and Ebelin Lugo gave up the lead and much more in the 7th.
Vance Worley does not seem to care where he is pitching, throwing 6 shut out innings in Syracuse, making his start on his regular day. He allowed just 3 hits, NO walks, and improved to 5-2 with Lehigh Valley. Add in his 4-1 with the Phillies, and at 9-3 overall is having a fine season.
