Carrasco, Worley impress again

The maturation of Vance Worley, Mike Stutes and Antonio Bastardo continues at a pace that no one could have foreseen earlier this year. Last night in Philadelphia, the trio combined to hold Boston to just 1 run on 5 hits, as the Phillies won again, 2-1. Worley recorded his 3rd win of the season, throwing 7 strong innings at the Sox to improve to 3-1, 2.57 on the year. Stutes (2.81) picked up his 5th hold, and Bastardo (0.93) his 3rd save, each throwing a 1-2-3 inning to finish off Worley's effort. As strong as that Boston line up is, to me this is an impressive performance by the 3 former Claws, especially when you consider that Boston pitcher John Lackey drove in the only run for the Red Sox!

Earlier, in Phoenix, Carlos Carrasco continued his impressive month, winning for the 7th time in his last 9 starts in a 6-2 Indians win over the Diamondbacks. Carrasco went 7 innings, and gave up 2 runs on just 4 hits (2 solo home runs accounting for the Arizona runs), NO walks and 7 Ks. Carlos showed once again that he is becoming unflappable, working out of trouble and picking up the big outs every time he needed them, including his last out, which was a strike out of pinch hitter Willy Mo Pena with 2 fastballs on the outside edge, and a killer slider that broke away from Pena, with the score 4-2, and a runner at second base. He also successfully sacrificed twice in his 4 at bats! Carrasco is now 8-4, 3.57 on the year, and will probably pitch Monday night in Cleveland against the Yankees. Lou Marson picked up 2 hits and a walk, and scored a run for Cleveland, and looks like he is finding his stroke at the plate.

The 2 wins make 49 on the year for former BlueClaws in the majors.
