Singleton belts 2 more

Jonathan Singleton had a big night in Clearwater Thursday, following his 6 RBI game on Tuesday by belting 2 home runs and a double to help the Threshers to a 6-5 win over Dunedin. Singleton is 8 for 11 (with 3 walks) the last 3 nights including 2 doubles, 3 homers, and 8 RBI. Jonathan Pettibone recorded his 7th win of the year, despite allowing 5 runs on 7 hits over 7 innings.

Speaking of the Threshers, my congratulations go out to Threshers Sebastian Valle and Jarred Cosart who had been selected to play in the future stars game at the major league all star festivities in Phoenix next month. Cosart, who was selected to play last year but could not attend due to injury, will pitch for the USA team, and Valle will catch for the World side. Valle is having an MVP type season for Clearwater, hitting .343 at this point.

In Reading, Tuffy Gosewisch belted a grand slam home run, (#7), one of his 2 hits on the night as the R-Phils pounded Erie, 10-3. Red hot Derrick Mitchell had a single, a double, and a triple, raising his constantly rising average to .282. It was the 5th multi-hit game in the last 10 for Mitchell, who seems to improve almost daily. Freddy Galvis (.277) is also hot, adding 2 more hits, and is 10 for 22 over the last 5 games. Tyler Cloyd recorded his first win for Reading, scattering 7 hits over 8 innings of work.

In Manchester, Travis d'Arnuad hit his 7th home run of the year for the Fisher Cats, 1 of only 3 hits collected by New Hampshire in their 2-0 win over Altoona. Anthony Gose had a walk and stole base #30 (in 37 attempts)............In Zebulon, Darrin Byrd threw 2 scoreless innings for Huntsville, who lost to the Mudcats, 3-2................In New Orleans, Jesus Merchan had 2 hits and drove in a run for the Zephyrs who lost 7-5 to Round Rock in the first game of their doubleheader.........In Tucson, Michael Taylor had 2 hits, including his 7th home run of the year for Sacramento, but the River Cats fell to the Padres, 9-7................In Toledo, Jason Donald had a hit, 2 walks, scored a run and drove in another to help Columbus beat the Mud Hens, 6-0.

I also want to congratulate Chase d'Arnaud, Travis' brother, who was called up to the major leagues yesterday by Pittsburgh!!
