major league notes

The Philadelphia-Allentown shuttle made another exchange after the game Saturday with Mike Zagurski returning to the IronPigs and David Herndon brought back to the big club. John Mayberry has also been recalled after playing 1 game with Lehigh Valley, replacing Ross Gload, who was granted parental leave. This leaves us with 16 HomeSiders currently active in the major leagues right now.

In Pittsburgh, Kyle Kendrick made the spot start in Joe Blanton's slot in the rotation, and Kyle gave the team 5 innings, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits and NO walks, absorbing the 8-3 loss. Kendrick threw 76 pitches, 50 for strikes, and is now 3-4, 3.78 on the year. (Zagurski threw a scoreless inning before being optioned later) Domonic Brown a walk, a single and an RBI, and Ryan Howard drove in his 43rd run of the year as the Phillies dropped their 4th straight.

In Cleveland, the Rangers beat the Indians again Saturday 4-0. Lou Marson was 0 for 3 and has seen his average drop to .192. After a good start, Lou has once again struggled with his hitting not getting regular at bats. Lou has hit well at every level I have seen him play, but he was usually playing everyday. In the meantime, the Indians fate has declined with Marson's batting average. After that wonderful 20-8 beginning, the Tribe is just 13-15 in their last 28 games, and still in first place at this time. They are probably not as good as they looked in April, and not as woeful as they are looking now.

In San Diego, Michael Bourn (.275) had 2 doubles and drove in a run for Houston, but the Padres beat the Astros, 6-3. The Astros (23-36), I am afraid, are as bad as they look.
