Ex-Claws lead Phillies to win

Thanks in no small part to the Philadelphia BlueClaws, the Phillies stopped the Florida Marlins, 9-1 Tuesday. Domonic Brown lead the attack with 2 solo home runs, Ryan Howard belted his 14th (55 RBI) and Cool Cole Hamels went 7 stellar innings to notch his 9th win. Hamels allowed just 1 run on 3 hits and 1 walk, and for all the talk about the "4 aces", Cole has been #1 in my eyes. He is now 9-2, 2.49 and has never been on a better role in his career.

It was win #40 for HomeSiders in 2011.

In Houston, the Prates topped the Astros, 1-0. Sergio Escalona (1.64) was at it again, this time he recorded 2 outs, with 1 K.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have promoted Mike Dubee to AAA Indianapolis. Mike took the loss in his AAA debut, allowing 2 runs on 1 hit and 1 walk in 1.1 innings of Gwinnett's 4-0 win over the Indians...........In Omaha, Robinson Tejeda had a rough time, and was betrayed by his defense on top of it. In 1.1 innings, Robinson gave up 6 hits, and 4 runs (only 1 earned), NO walks, and 3 Ks, and was the losing pitcher in Iowa's 11-5 win............In Memphis, Jesus Merchan had a single and a double and scored a run for New Orleans, but the Redbirds beat the Zephyrs, 5-3...........In Durham, the Bulls edged Norfolk, 1-0. R.J. Swindel picked up a hold, recording 2 outs for the Bulls...........In Akron, Travis d'Arnaud (.316) had a single and a double and scored a run as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats beat the Aeros, 7-1.

Chance Chapman's tribulations continue for Lehigh Valley. Chance gave up 6 runs on 6 hits and a walk, but the IronPigs took an 8-7 victory from Louisville. Andrew Carpenter went 2 scoreless relief innings, striking out 4, and Scott Mathieson pitched a shut out 9th to pick up his 5th save.

In Bowie, the BaySox beat Reading, 6-4. Mike Spidale (.323, single double, RBI), Cody Overbeck (.281), Steve Susdorf (.316, single, double, run scored) and Derrick Mitchell (.280, single, HR # 11, 3 RBI) all had 2 hits for the R-Phils. Austin Hyatt took the loss, going 5.1 innings and allowing 5 runs on 4 hits (3 of the home runs) and 4 walks. Jacob Diekman finished, going 2.1 innings and giving up an UNearned run on 2 hits and 3 walks, striking out 3.

In Dunedin, the Clearwater Threshers pounded out 17 hits en route to a wild 13-12, 10 inning win over the Jays. Leandro Castro belted 2 home runs (# 8 & 9) and drove in 4 runs, and Jiwan James (single, double, triple, RBI, run scored), Darin Ruf (2 singles, HR #4, 3 runs scored), and Cesar Hernandez ( 2 singles, HR #2, 2 RBI) all collected 3 hits. Brody Colvin (5 IP, 5 runs 7 hits, 4 walks) and Mike McGuire (.2 IP, 4 runs 5 hits, 2 walks) were hit particularly hard, but Ebelin Lugo threw a scoreless 10th to pick up his 2nd save.
